Halloween sees the annual Foxy's Cat Fight. This is a fun filled weekend of multihull racing, basically in charter catamarans, is based out of the famous Foxy's at Great Harbour, Jost van Dyke and also happens to coincide with Foxy's Halloween Party in October. Why not charter one of our fleet and try your luck? Some of our owners come down to stretch their feline's legs and it's not unheard of for the base staff to be out there having a crack too. Win or lose you're sure to have a great time.

Each year, on the weekend closest to Halloween, multi-hull lovers gather on Jost Van Dyke, one of the smallest BVI islands, for the Caribbean’s only multihull regatta. Named after Foxy Callwood, host of the event at Foxy’s Tamarind Bar, run by the Loyal West End Yacht Club and sponsored by The Catamaran Company, this event is unique in that it offers great multihull racing as well as an outrageous Halloween Costume Party as its annual fare.

West End Yacht Club RUNS 8TH ANNUAL FOXY’S CAT FIGHT

Special Report to The BVI Beacon from MIKE KIRK – Race Committee WEYC

The East Wind returned on schedule for the 8th Annual Foxy's Cat fight sailed off Jost van Dyke on October 30. Winds were 12 to 18 knots for the two race series, sailed around Sandy Cay. A slow time for the anticlockwise course prompted Race Captain Martin van Houten to shorten the second race to a clockwise rotation of the 1st course, omitting the planned long race around Great Thatch. Nevertheless the visiting three legged cat "Laurus Roc" from St Martin completed the second race in a respectable 50:42 minutes. Skipper Lars Svensen reported touching 17 knots on the return reach. Credit to 36 ft Avalon for hanging in for a finish time of 1hr 48:22mins --they are reported to be planning to add a third hull for next year’s race! Competitors appreciated the novel audible canine start mechanism using Neil Bailes' trained Jack Russell terrier to count down the final seconds to their staggered starts 1 minute apart.

Mike Fallis and his motley crew from West End sailed a great race to take the "Baddest Cat Award" given to the first Charter boat to finish. At the especially revealing Costume party, Foxy thanked everybody for their creative costumes and the West End Yacht Club race committee for running another great race. Recognition and thanks also go to the Catamaran Company for the grand prize of a case of Pussers’ Rum and special thanks to Mark Saunders and Benson Baker at TMM for the loan of an immaculate Cat for the Committee. Without the mutual support of charter companies such BVI fun filled events would be impossible.

1st place winners were:

Over 50 ft Class: Dalliance -- Mike Fallis

40-50 ft Class: Rendezvous Cay -- Tim Stanich

Under 40 ft Class: Avalon -- Rich Herman

Over 60 ft Class: Laurus Roc -- Lars Svensen
